Copenhagen's Nørrebro Neighbourhood Guide

Here's introducing the coolest neighbourhood in town, with the now famous Jaegersborggade full of designer chocolates, organic coffee, quirky plant shops, vintage treats and super frozen ice cream. There are even wine tastings and uber cool restaurants all crammed into one cool block. And that's just one street of this now all star neighbourhood.

Once a decidely ghetto neighbourhood with famous squat parties on Jagtvej and a lot of drug running, Nørrebro has now cleaned up it's act to become a hipster mecca of organic cafes and cool handmade gifts. The selection of wine bars and restaurants here is also awesome, with Jaegersborggade street claiming the price with a whole line of intriguing shops and workshops, including Michelin star restaurant Relae and sister restaurant Manfred's. Be aware that despite it's new trendy appeal, there are still plenty of drugs and drug related incidents in this neighbourhood and there have been high profile news reports in recent months. That said, there's also lots of peaceful green spaces and plenty of cool shops to explore, so check out the friendly neighbourhood vibe!

Relae
This isn't a recommendation for a budget restaurant, but Relae has a Michelin star and is recognised as one of the top 50 restaurants in the world. Sharing some organic produce and amazing chefs with neighbouring restaurant Manfreds, Relae offers lush organic food with a choice of 2 tasting menus and wine pairing. Great option if you're not on a budget!

Coffee Collective
This trendy cafe arguably begun the hipster wave that arrived here with it's opening on Jaegersborggade (it's now moved to the end corner of the street) and since then other locations around town including Torvehallen market. It offers freshly ground coffee to brew or drink on site, and the coffees are selected and traceable all over the world. With a cosy vibe inside, there are also benches outside on the sunny street corner. Enjoy!

Omar
This Nørrebro favourite was previously cafe Wescator and Omar has now taken over with the same cosy vibe and a quick change of decor.

Istid
Jaegerborggade
This is - believe it or not - where to get your organic icec cream made with the help of a blast of liquid nitrogen. Istid (or Ice Age) has opened up their tasty sweet shop on this trendy street with a very trendy twist! But we love the ice cream flavours! It's opposite the chocolate shop though which is tough competition when it comes to who does a better soft whip!!

Resecond
Second hand or ´vintage´ clothes at great prices, which also means you're helping to save the planet.

Sneakers & Coffee
Jaegersborggade
We only went in for a coffee and did end up buying some sneakers as well... This store offers this odd duo of great coffee and some uber trendy sneakers. The coffee is responsibly sourced and tastes delicous, and the sneakers are a selection of well known brands and a few new trendsetters.

Ladyfingers
As the name suggests, these handmade designs and exsquisite jewellery collections are made by individual designers with unique style. This is the place to buy a holiday momento that you'll want to wear!

Inge Vincent Ceramics
Jaegersborggade
This is a great place for fans of handmade pottery as ceramisist Inge opens her workshop and pots to sell here. She has moved a few doors down the street with a bigger store now, but still has beautifully simple and delicate works, mostly flower vases in white, which are great Danish design souvenirs (don't break them on the way home!)

Grod
Jaegersborggade
Perhaps bizarrely popular to outsiders, Grod, or porridge, is very popular in Denmark and is usually jazzed up with dried fruits, nuts, honey and spices. Just as 'cereal cafes' became a trend in New York and London, porridge has made a trendy foothold in Copenhagen. To be fair, the porridge is great, and a perfect place to enjoy one on a cold day!
