Let's Go Swimming in Copenhagen this Summer!!

The city is having a heat wave and it's the best time to get your swimming costume ready for some serious outside bathing in the city! There are so many great spots to visit, from the city Harbour Baths to the nearby Amager Strand sand dune city beach. If you're looking for somewhere trendy with a cool beer, or a kids friendly place to bathe, Copenhagen has it all. Here are our favourite spots to enjoy the weather with a refreshing swim.

Due to it's seafront location, Copenhagen also has several beaches within a short trip from the city center, from long stretches of sandy dunes to lagoons for windsurfing. If you love swimming outdoors then there are plenty of places to try!

Copencabana swimming Copenhagen

Right underneath Fisketorvet Shopping Centre in Vesterbro is Copencabana (Copenhagen and Copacabana), another one of the city’s new harbour baths. This one also has three pools and three springboards. Here there is a 5m deep dive pool so a great place to jump in! It is free to visit and there are children's pools and a lifeguard during the day.

Svanemølle beach and Harbour Bath

Opened in 2010 is the popular Svanemølle beach which gets very busy on a hot day. There's a small area of sand but a 130 m long swimming jetty so you can run out into the water and jump off, or just sunbathe on the wooden decks. It is located just a short walk from the Nordhavn S-train station. There's a long beach on one side and and then a space to jump in on the other, with great views of the city from the end of the jetty. Get here early for a space as it gets crowded!

Harbour Baths and Brygge Islands

Open from June 1st until September, all day long!

The Harbour Baths were created by architect Bjarke Ingels after a big clean up of the harbour water by the Danish government, and the idea was to create an inner city swimming space. The water quality is measured here daily, and there are several pools of different depths to swim in and enjoy. Along with a great little picnic area where you can sunbathe and enjoy a drink, there are also diving boards of various heights so you can give it a go yourself or watch others show off! There are shallow pools that are suitable for children and deeper pools for a serious swim, or just enjoy the views and chill. Located just by Vesterbro, these pools are right in the city center!

The Coral Baths at Sluseholmen

These baths opened in Copenhagen in 2012 and are inspired by coral reefs (hence the name). There are four pools and a protected area bordering a lagoon. There is something for everyone here with space to dive or for kids to swim, and entrance is free.

Amager Strandpark (Amager Beach Park)

Amager Beach Park is easy to reach by metro from the city center and has the choice of a long stretch of sandy beach behind the sand dunes or a grassy spot by the lagoon. There is a choice of water sports including wind sailing on the lagoon, and a jetty to jump off on the seafront side of the beach. This is a great place to enjoy a picnic or just relax in the sand dunes. It's very popular at the weekends but there is space for everyone, with shady areas on the lagoon side and some serious sunbathing space on the sandy side. This is a great place to spend the day and enjoy a splash in the sea.
