'Two Birds Travel' blogger Lizzie enjoyed a stay with us last month and discovered new things to love about Copenhagen. She wrote a dedicated article for the Huffington Post on a 'Broke Girl's Guide to Copenhagen' and was interviewed by us on her thoughts on Copenhagen and what to do on a visit here. It's not all just Carlsberg, but there's a lot of it!

"So Lizzie, what was your first impression of Copenhagen?"

Loved it instantly! Between the charming buildings, cobblestone streets and chic bicycles - I was sold the second I got there.

"What was the most surprising thing about Copenhagen?"

Copenhagen has a reputation for being expensive but I found it quite the opposite actually! I was traveling on a budget and managed to get by just fine.

"What was the best thing you found?"

I loved walking through Christiania. It's a very unique place and had a great atmosphere.

"Did you meet some locals? What was your impression?"

They are amazing! So warm and welcoming and the Danes know how to have a good time.

"What tips would you give to someone planning a trip to Copenhagen?"

Stay somewhere central, and go on the Free Walking Tour on your first day to familiarise yourself with the area. It is the perfect introduction to the city.

"What advice would you give to someone thinking about staying in a hostel?"

If you’re not 20 years old and looking for a party, read reviews and descriptions carefully. Hostels with nightly drink specials, organized pub crawls, and costume or theme parties will be miserable for you. But some hostels specifically state that they are a quiet place without all the chaos. On the other hand, if you’re young, traveling solo, and hoping to meet people, a more social hostel will be perfect for you.

"What did you like about Copenhagen Downtown Hostel?"

The best feature about the hostel is the laid back atmosphere and sense of community you provide. It's perfect for solo travelers and small groups. Mealtimes can be very social. Whether you're traveling alone or with other people, go hang out in the hostel’s bar or restaurant and strike up a conversation. You could end up with a fun 30 minute chat or a new best friend.

We completely agree! We often get feedback that it's a great place to meet people because of the communal areas and free dinners. People find it a good place to chill out and meet our International crowd!

Thanks Lizzie, you’re welcome to come and stay again!
