Famous Hostels - Beaver’s Journey Ends

The challenge was set for Stephen ‘Beaver' Harris to journey #51hostelsin3months covering all the Famous Hostels destinations from Norway to Morocco.  Traveling with only his wits about him and a whole lot of love from the great hostels across Europe in the Famous Hostels network, he traveled 34,722 Kms! The journey has this week sadly ended, and Beaver has finished his epic odyssey. Find out how he spent his last week and how his trip ended.

Famous Hostels

Arriving at Hush Lounge, Istanbul

After arriving in the famous Taksim Square, Beaver made his way to the awesome Hush Hostel, grabbing a lift from a local! He loved the view from the roof terrace and the healthy breakfast, having a great night with some traveling friends.

"There is an incredible roof terrace up there with a great view of the city."

Hush Lounge
and sister hostel Hush Moda are both in the Kadıköy district, with ‘quiet’ district of Istanbul (the Asian side) away from the intensity of Istanbul. Beaver enjoyed Hush’s free walking tour of Kadıköy (the oldest part of Istanbul), taking the ferry across to Eminönü on the European side to see the famous Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia, and the Blue Mosque. He even got to experience Aziziye Hamami; a traditional Turkish bathhouse.

Enjoying Abraham’s Hostel, Jerusalem

Arriving from Istanbul late at night, Beaver found Abraham’s Hostel in Jerusalem and was immediately impressed by how friendly, lively and fun it was.

“The bar had closed, but people were lounging in bean-bag chairs and sitting around as a guest was playing intricate piano parts and an improv band of a guitar, a beat-boxer, and a tamborinist were making music in the corner."

He loved everything about the hostel from their delicious breakfast to their great motto of “Stop Working, Start Traveling” and enjoyed their free walking tour of the Old City in Jerusalem and Mahne Yehuda Market. He even took part in the kitchen helping to make the traditional Rosh Hashanah meal.

He was then lucky enough to join in the tours to Masada, the Ein Gedi waterfalls in the middle of the desert and the dead sea. You can read about his adventures in Israel and meeting the Arabic Bedouin people here.

The Last Hostel: Equity Point Marrakech

Beaver stayed at Equity Point in Marrakech, a great hostel in a former palace, right in the heart of the old town. It’s a large hostel with a roof terrace where you can see the Atlas Mountains, a swimming pool, and several lounge areas to relax in. Not surprisingly he had a great time here, deciding it was “a place to come to unwind and decompress from all that you have put yourself through on the road”.

Beaver enjoyed a trip into the desert, driving into the Atlas Mountains, the UNESCO Kasbah of fort of Ait Ben Haddou and the famous Medina and souks of Marrakech.

His last thoughts as he ended his epic journey as a Famous Hostels Ambassador:

"Today was just such a nice day to c
hill out and reflect a little on the past three months of chaos and the wonderful humans who have come into my life during amazing tour through Europe, Jerusalem, and Marrakech…”
