Discover Copenhagen at Christmas Time


Shrug off winter’s dark and chilly nights and head for northern Europe’s cosiest party town, the pulsing city of Copenhagen.

This city is the definition of hygge- here you can embrace great food, join the booming bar culture and feel all the warm welcome that this Scandinavian city can muster. If you love the idea of meeting new friends, lighting up those dark nights with delicious food and better company, then book your plane. It’s time to party!


Make Tracks for Tivoli


You can’t visit this fun-loving city without at visit to the world’s oldest amusement park Tivoli. During the festive period you can hop on one of the cutting-edge rides like the 63 metres high, Golden Tower ride that drops you straight into the adrenaline zone. If you’re after more gentle action you could even, try the Elf Ride.


Fancy a more traditional taste of Christmas then take in the thousands of glittering lights and snowflake decorations that make this place better than the North Pole on 24th of December! To grab your share of Christmas, feel good make sure you visit their steam-train themed the Trainsbury experience that includes a world of hot drinks and mouth-watering snacks and stalls to get your own gift giving under wraps. The festive feel good kicks off on November 16 and runs until the 5th of January. Just don’t forget to sample the gløgg, that’s the too good to miss spiced wine winter warmer.


And if you love some party pyrotechnics Tivoli also hosts a festival of fireworks on the 25th, 26th at 20.45 or get ready for the New year in style with fireworks on the 31st of December at 23.00.


Connect to your inner-Olympian


Get your skates on – literally at Frederiksberg Have, a fancy park a close walk from the city centre where you can try out your own blades of glory and throwing some shapes in the ice. The illuminated open-air skating rink is open from November until the end of February.

If you come prepared with ice skates, you’re one step ahead. But if on a whim you fancy embracing your inner Olympic ice skater then you for a small fee you can hire a pair of skates.


Take to the Streets with Santa


Wrap up warm and make a date with the Sunday 2nd of December when Santa Claus will parade from Nyhavn Canal to Rådhuspladsen with songs and celebration. When the man in red gets to the enormous spruce tree, he uses the help of the dashing Copenhagen fire brigade to reach the top of the tree and illuminate the city’s massive 20m Christmas tree with hundreds of lights and decorations.


This free slice of festive fun dates back all the way to 1914 and is a tradition that will have you making new friends and exploring the city’s seasonal best bits as you go. Get ready to spot Santa from 14.00 until 16.30. Find out more here




Feed your Festive Appetite


Head to PapirØen, or Paper Island, the modern area of the city’s harbour where you’ll discover the mouth-watering Copenhagen Street Food. This is where you can wander through stalls selling a huge array of foods from around the world to stimulate your appetite and spoil you with donuts, gløgg and much more.

After sampling all that warming gløgg you can tell the best from the rest then head to Torvehallerne food market runs an annual competition to judge the city’s best gløgg.


Sweet Tooth Treats


If your sweet tooth isn’t quite satisfied by a visit to Paper Island you can take a visit to the Sømod’s Bolcher Candy Factory. This company has been around for 125 years and has even provided candy to they royal family! Visit the factory in the hip Nørreport, near the Station, where you sample the traditionally made sweet fare. There’s free entry until 23rd December for those with a taste for candy.
