Meet Justas our awesome CPH Downtown Bar Manager!

Here are Copenhagen Downtown Hostel we have the best staff in the world, so we want to shout about it! Find out a bit more about who is mixing your delicious cocktails and what their tips are for things to see and do in Copenhagen here...

So tell us a bit about yourself Justas...

I'm from Lithuania and have been living in Copenhagen for 3 years and working at Copenhagen Downtown Hostel for 2 years this July. I love living in the city and work with the best team here.

Why did you pick Copenhagen to live in?

I think Copenhagen is a great modern Western European city that has everything. For example you can find things easily and enjoy everything you like to do, but it's a great size for a city as it still feels intimate rather than too big like other European capitals. I love the friendly and open minded people and how they always are up for socialising and it's easy to meet new people here.

What's the best drink to kick off Happy Hour at the hostel bar?

My favourite is our new cocktail the Butterfly. It's got the exotic mix of rum, lime and mint - refreshing especially on a hot summer day - and at the moment Copenhagen is having a heat wave so it's perfect!

What's the best thing about working at Copenhagen Downtown Hostel?

The team is great, everybody is always helping each other out and we are like a family. We're always busy but we're always helping each other and it's always recipirocal and we have a lot of fun. We have great team chemistry and enjoy it but everybody is always trying to do their best. My colleagues are all great!

 Best team ever!

What do you think are the best events and parties at Copenhagen Downtown Hostel?

The Full Moon Parties we have here are definitely the most fun. We go all for it!! The last one we had we made a real sand beach around the bar with loads and loads of sand. We had Thai themed bucket cocktails like the full moon parties there, and had the most amazing decorations. The staff really got in to it as well as they all got their beach wear on - the guys were in shorts and girls in swimsuits, it was just a great atmosphere! The music was also really good with a a DJ playing really good electronic music - each time we have different DJs too so I'm excited for the next one.

What's the best thing about the bar at Copenhagen Downtown Hostel?

We have one of the best Happy Hours in Copenhagen for sure. It's not the cheapest city to drink in if you're more used to other countries but we offer amazing deals at the hostel. We have 10 shots for 50 Kroner from 8-9pm and 1 liter of beer for 50kr. We also have long drinks like gin and tonics and you can get 2 singles for 60 Kr and 2 doubles for 80Kr, which is super good for Copenhagen prices!

Also the local vibe in the bar is great - we have quite a few regulars who come here to hang out who we know, especially when we have live music. For example Tuesday and Thursday evenings we have 'Open Mic Night' with our favourite musician Morten - he's amazing and can play anything. That's always a great time to drop in to the bar as we have everyone dancing and a good atmosphere.

I love that it's really international also - we quite often have people where we don't speak the same language but we work it out - I speak several languages but I don't speak French, so when we have French guests that only speak French we have some funny conversations but we get there in the end!

Where do you like to go when you're not mixing cocktails?

Of course the cocktails at Copenhagen Downtown Hostel are the best, but I like to also go out for cocktails at  Barking Dog and Sidecar cafe - they do an amazing weekend brunch and in the evenings there is a mixture of Asian food on the menu, it's quite a cool place.

What's the best things to see in Copenhagen?

I would always recommend to go to Nyhaven which is the postcard perfect image of Copenhagen. It's next to the canal and has all the colourful houses so it's really iconic. I also like Paper Island and nearby Copenhagen Food Market. Christiania is a nice place to go. It's pretty famous so worth going just to see what it's like.

Thanks for the tips Justas, see you for a Butterfly at the Copenhagen Downtown Hostel Bar soon!!
