Danish Tradition

Although originally the celebration was the eve before All Saints Day (1st November) and was more for lighting candles on graves and remembering the dead, Halloween has now become an excuse to dress up and eat candy in Denmark too. This month the laid back Danish celebrate Halloween with parties and entertainment for kids and grown ups too. Around the world lots of little ghosts and witches will out saying ‘trick or treat’ On the 31st October. Instead of that though Danish children must wait for Martinmas Eve Saint Martins Day on November 11th. Neighbors open their doors and give candy and tangerines to children wearing masks or carrying paper lanterns.
